It's officially patio season! We've had our first few warm weather days above 70 degrees and it seems like all anyone wants to do is sit outside on a patio with a cocktail. Since we're repping the Wicker Park 'hood, we thought we'd compile our favorite bars and restaurants with some top-notch outdoor seating, just in time for Memorial Day.
Kicking off this list with a strong start is Big Star. Their patio is by far one of the most popular on weekends, so try to go during the weekday or early happy hour if you're looking to sit. Margarita pitchers and tacos, need we say more?
Parson's Chicken & Fish
Parson's not only has a huge outdoor seating area, they also have some amazing fried fish and chicken. Try one of the frozen cocktails, aka adult slushies!
Looking for a bar that makes you feel like you're in your friend's backyard? Look no further than Happy Village. Cheap beer, kitchy decor, grassy knolls, and plenty of ping pong.
As a Texas native, I can confirm that Smoke Daddy's BBQ is one of the best I've found in Chicago. Try their burnt ends brisket sandwich while sipping a shandy on the patio.
This new kid on the block is sure to be a big summer hit. Located in the heart of Wicker Park, this bar boasting a rooftop patio serves 80s and 90s themed cocktails (the Champagne Supernova was delicious) while playing the music of our 20- and 30- something youth. True to their name, they also offer an extensive selection of whiskey.
Enjoy one of the best burgers in town and a beer on their cozy patio. You haven't lived until you've tried the garlic aioli with the fries.
Northside is great for when you're looking to lounge back in a comfy chair with some beverages and not move for a couple hours. They have a covered patio with a cozy atmosphere that is best for lounging, located close to the heart of Wicker Park.
Not only does Bucktown's Red Door have a gigantic patio situated among the trees with plenty of seating, they have delicious food as well. Try it for brunch or make it your meet up spot with friends for a relaxing night!
Themed after old sporting lodges, the taxidermy and retro touches add the perfect hint of hipster. Known for rotating cocktails, Sportsman's Club will have you cozying up to your neighbor on the patio with family-style benches and tables. Try some of their table games if you're in need of conversation starters!
Bangers & Lace
Bangers & Lace has an extensive draft beer selection with some of the best craft beer options in the city. If you can't snag a patio seat, no worries! During summer months they open up the wide doors so you get the full effect of a Chicago breeze with some indoor shade.
For good measure...
No, this bar is definitely not on the west side, but it's one of the best rooftop bars with the greatest view in the city. Every time I have out of town guests I bring them here to take in a glass of rose and see views of downtown, Lincoln Park, and the lake.
